Free Shipping Note

Please be aware that if you qualify for free shipping (orders with the net merchandise totaling over $200 shipping to a continental US address) the shipping cost shown by the webstore will be removed when we pack and ship your order (the final total is included with the shipping notification email). We previously had this adjustment done automatically, however we had to remove it in order to allow for for other upcoming shipping options to function correctly. If you pay with a credit card, we will revise your total before actually charging your card. If PayPal, we will refund the difference within 1 business day of shipping your package. If money order, just send payment without the shipping charge. Your order will be shipped via the lowest cost ground shipping method (either UPS Ground, FedEx Ground/Home Delivery, or USPS Parcel Post).

Half Price Shipping Note

Please be aware that if you qualify for half price shipping (orders with the net merchandise totaling between $100 and $200 shipping to a continental US address) the shipping cost shown by the webstore is BEFORE the half price discount (to determine what the shipping total will be if you qualify, just divide what the website shows as a shipping cost in half). The half price discount is given when we pack and ship your order (the final total is included with the shipping notification email). We have to do it this way due to a limitation with our software. If you pay with a credit card, we will revise your total before charging your card. If PayPal, we will refund the difference within 1 business day of shipping your package. Inventory Questions

We have been receiving a lot of inquiries lately regarding whether we actually have something in stock as our website indicates. This is likely due to the practices of other online hobby stores who have a different definition of what "In Stock" means. In case you are not familiar with our business practices, we use a real time inventory system that shows (accurately and live/in real time) what is available for sale and how many. It automatically and instantly updates the available quantities after each order is successfully placed.

Also, our definition of "In Stock" means that the item is actually in our warehouse (not at our distributors'/suppliers' warehouse) and is ready to immediately ship to you. Thus if you order from us, you will reliably and quickly receive what you order. On a side note, we are also human, so on rare occasion something could be in error, however our error rate in 2009 to-date has well been less than 0.1%.

How To Search

We have received several requests/comments recently about difficulties searching for particular items on our webstores. In most cases it was due to unfamiliarity with how our search functions work. International Customers

(May 14, 2007) - Please be advised that the US Postal Service has discontinued Surface Mail service. As a result any restricted shipping items (mainly certain glues and paints) we will no longer be able to ship outside the USA.

  • The acquisition of GreatModels Webstore (GMW) was formally completed this morning.
  • First, it is our pleasure to welcome the GreatModels customers. GMW, and its owner Loic A., were the trailblazer in establishing the online hobby shopping experience. After over 14 years of creating and updating his “baby”, owner Loic has decided to pursue other interests and has asked us to “take the baton” from him and continue to serve and take care of his customers as we have taken care of our own. We salute Loic and GMW as an era ends while a new one begins with the combined GMW and SBM.

  • As with any change, there is a learning curve as to how things are done on our website versus how it was done at GMW. We would invite anyone not familiar with how our site works and how we do things to view these pages as these help pages have the answers to the most common questions we typically receive:

  • The physical move of over 200,000 inventory items plus fixtures begins on Monday April 30 and should be completed before the end of May. During this transition, our normal restock ordering will be temporarily impacted (you will likely see slower restock time for 2 to 3 weeks while we work on the move and initial integration the GMW inventory). Any items available at GMW will become available at SBM eventually (we will try to do so as soon as possible). However a transition of this size will take some time. Your patience is appreciated.
  • One last item which has been a common question we have received – what will happen to the GMW website? Assuming it is technically feasible, our intent is to leave the GMW website up as a reference resource. Its vast database is an invaluable resource for us modelers (I am primarily an 1:48 and 1:32 jet aircraft modeler). There may be a facelift eventually done, but the heart of it (the database) should remain intact.

Continental US (lower 48 states) Customers - our standard policy is for half price shipping for orders of $100, and free shipping for orders over $200.

* The displayed inventory is in real time / the only exception is when we are vending at a show (show list above) which we update our inventory with 24 hours of the show's end.
