About Feisty Felines Pt 1 Three Lives of F-14A Tomcat BuNo 160390 Sheet
 This sheet includes three significant marking schemes in the life of one F-14A Tomcat airframe, BuNo 160390. Includes complete markings for all three aircraft. Markings included:

  • VF-41 Black Aces - Overall Light Gull Gray (FS36440). Due to corrosion control, there were fresh areas of Light Gull Gray sprayed on the airframe that were lighter than the original paint and gave it a somewhat patchy appearance. On 19 August 1981, Lt. Larry Muczynski and Lt. Dave Anderson shot down a Libyan Su-22 while assigned to this aircraft. At the time of the engagement, no crew names were present. However, shortly after their return to USS Nimitz, both planes were painted on the canopy rails (both sides) and a Su-22 silhouette was added below the spade on each side of the tail. To model the airplane before and during the engagement, leave off the crew names and kill markings. Note the different Modex numbers on the left and right sides of the nose. NOTE - includes the correct non-standard US national insignia.
  • VF-84 Jolly Rogers - Overall Dark Ghost Gray (FS36320) with Light Gray (FS36495) stenciling and warning data. Paint the vertical tails Flat Black (FS37038). For a short time, this aircraft carried a small AJ on the outside of the tail, stacked diagonally to the skull and crossed bones. It was similar in appearance to the original VF-84 markings. These have been included should you choose to use them in place of the AJ on the inside of the tail.
  • VF-213 Black Lions - Standard Tactical Paint Scheme of Medium Gray (FS35237) topside, Dark Ghost Gray (FS36320) sides and tails, and Light Ghost Gray (FS36375) undersurfaces. The Medium Gray was considerably faded and was almost indistinguishable from the Dark Ghost Gray. Paint the fin caps Dark Gray (FS36081). This was the final incarnation of BuNo 160390. It was lost with LT Kara Hultgren, one of the Navy's first female fighter pilots, while on approach to USS Abraham Lincoln on 25 October 1994.
